A plan for the Town Centre (1915)

Since the police station proposal has everyone focused on the “centre” of town, it’s fun to study a civic improvement plan from 1915.

  • Police? How do you spell that?
  • Fire? How do you spell that?
  • Pond instead of bandstand.
  • Baseball diamond.
  • Tennis court across from current post office.
  • Dearborn Road is a “proposed street.”
  • Town scale is on the island near today’s fire station. It’s visible in the old photo below.
  • Simonds Park is referred to as an “orchard park.”
  • This was drawn by Massachusetts Agricultural College, now known as UMass Amherst.
