Nike missile site

Nike missile silos, with one in the chamber (Northeastern University satellite campus today) -- and Route 128 Drive-In seen in background (Roche Bros. plaza today)

Those black slots are the missile chambers, where elevators carried the missiles to the surface for launch. If you squint, you’ll see a missile in one of them. Another missile is strapped to a trailer in the middle of the image. The two side-by-side structures are the mechanics’ building, which held all of the necessary tools for the missile operation, and the missile fueling station. Downhill from the missile site, you’ll see the familiar row of military houses on South Bedford St. In the background is Route 128 Drive-In, where the Roche Bros. plaza is now.
