Those black slots are the missile chambers, where elevators carried the missiles to the surface for launch. If you squint, you’ll see a missile in one of them. Another missile is strapped to a trailer in the middle of the image. The two side-by-side structures are the mechanics’ building, which held all of the necessary tools for the missile operation, and the missile fueling station.
