Today is Lahey Clinic Day

No joke! Here’s Gov. Francis Sargent, 50 years ago this month, signing a proclamation that cements April 2 as Lahey Clinic Day.

Lahey Clinic Day

So how will you celebrate? How about a nice stroll around the campus? Oh, but most of the perimeter road has either an unfinished gravel sidewalk or no sidewalk at all. You end up sharing the same asphalt with cars and ambulances, even if you’re a patient on crutches or in a wheelchair. So just stay inside the hospital and be happy. You don’t need fresh air or exercise.

  1. Dr. Wise later became CEO of the hospital. My mother worked as his executive assistant for many years.

    • My dad, Tom Flaherty, was a Selectman when Lahey moved to Burlington. My dad, and the board, worked hard to bring Lahey to Burlington. A few years before both passed, I was seated in a crowded Lahey waiting room, and Dr. Wise walked by and noticed us. Dr. Wise told the entire waiting area that Lahey would never have moved to Burlington without my dad‘s guidance and support. Needless to say, his comments made me and my dad quite proud.

  2. I recieved the first Lahey Clinic Scholarship in 1976. They had me visit their existing hospital in Boston and met a lot of the doctors there. Great people..
