Will these sibling skaters make it big?

Fifty summers ago, these Burlington siblings (109 Francis Wyman Road) started to get noticed in the skating world. This appeared in the local papers.

They went on to win a gold medal in the 1981 US Figure Skating Nationals.

And then the silver medal in the 1984 Winter Olympics.

A banner hung over the Middlesex Turnpike in 1984 to honor the town’s four winter olympians: Peter and Kitty Carruthers and Mark and Scott Fusco.

Fifty years ago this month, Lahey decided NOT to buy the Union School as a satellite building. Instead, it built the little Trump building downhill from the main hospital. It’s named after John Trump, the uncle of Donald Trump. Click here for more about him.Trump building, Lahey Hospital Burlington MA

  1. Mrs. Carruthers was my teacher at Marshall Simmonds. I remember Kitty and Peter stopping by for a rally in the gym. They popped into the class. I remember I had a hat signed. Thanks for the memory.

  2. bob…………………..nice post and article…..glad to see graduates of the union school make their way in the world…………….not bad for a little sleepy town…………carljohnson,,bhs54

  3. I remember going to Butcher’s Pride with my Mother when I was around 6 yrs old. The butcher used to trim the wing tips off her chicken wings at the counter while you watched. Such great memories!
