My Grandfather Bill Haley worked at Zarren motors during the 50’s and 60’s. He retired in 69. I have film of the place around 68. I’ve been wanting to track down any photos someone may have of a car that he built. He was an auto body man and built a car, I believe for Zarren Sr.’s son, in the 50’s or 60’s. But we don’t have any photos of it. Would love to have a copy of any photos you may have of it. If you want those few minutes of film I have of the place from 68 where would I send it? Thanks David Wells Grandson of William Haley.
Wow. I can’t believe I came across this. Clarence Zarren was my next door neighbor. I also worked there as a gopher after school and during the summer. I remember Bill. And yes, he built a car for the sons, Bennett and Harvey. It was a Hudson Jet. It was chopped, channelled and powered by a 283 Chevy engine. Bill painted it white. It was a bizarre machine and frankly not very attractive. In 1966 Bennett sold it for $500 to one of his mechanics. He fiddled with it and painted it flat black. Last I heard it was junked at Schick’s wrecking yard it Watertown in the late 60’s.
