More recently, it was Lester’s Roadside BBQ . . .
And now it’s NW Pest Control.
The location was robbed soon after it opened in the late 1960s.
And was robbed again 50 years ago this month, June of 1976.

I remember being at the grand opening when Ronald was there and I seem to recall an incident with an unfinished light pole and someone getting zapped.
The robbery was probably done by the cops at the time 🙂
i was in the courtroom the day the kids were arraigned for stealing the Ronald McDonald from the play yard. The bailiff could just barely get it out without busting a gut laughing. here she is trying to read ..as i turned the corner all i saw was BIG RED FEET hanging out the side windows . we all started laughing the judged was pissed
One of my favorite memories as a kid was meeting and getting the autograph of Gentleman Jim Lonborg in 1968 at that McDonalds. Years later, we were in college together at UMass-Boston as he pursued his dental career. Still a great guy.

I grew up in the Winmere neighborhood near the Woburn town line, and as kids we’d ride our bikes all the way across Burlington to this McDonald’s near the Billerica line. Back then it felt like a major expedition. That’s one of many favorite memories of growing up as a “free-range” Gen X kid. We’d leave the house in the morning, ride all over town with friends, no cell phones, no GPS, and our parents only had no idea where we were. Burlington seemed huge when you were on a bike, and half the fun was the adventure of getting there. Seeing this McDonald’s writeup decades later brings back a lot of great memories from those carefree days.
One day I walked from my Chandler Road neighborhood all the way to Washington Ave, near FW Elementary. I cut through Rahanis, then the Almy’s alley, then through the swamp behind the bowling alley to Fairfax St, and then down Terrace Hall. A blockbuster adventure!
Bob, That’s a great Burlington adventure story! I remember Almy’s, my family used to shop there, and it’s hard to believe it’s been gone for so many years now..
We also spent plenty of time at the bowling alley as kids. My friends and I would ride our bikes over there and bowl a few strings, I want to say I remember playing pinball there too? We would then head off on whatever adventure came next. Looking back, it’s amazing how much freedom we had as kids. Those bike rides and long walks across town seemed like epic journeys at the time, and they’re some of the memories that have stuck with me.

That’s awesome, Thx! When I navigated over to the bowling alley writeup, the picture at the top of the site was Winn Street Superette, spent lots of time there as a kid. Parents would send me there to pick up milk and the newspaper!
