July 4 parades from long ago
These show July 4 parades from 1968, 69, 72 and 78. Photo credits go to John G. “Jack” Murphy, Burlington’s rep on the Shawsheen Tech School Committee late 70s to mid 80s, and Carolyn Rowe of Muller Road. I was in Photo #4 as the tall drummer in our first years as the Citations Drum & Bugle Corps of Burlington. Have many great friends from being in that organization. I had to start all July 4th parades near my house on Chestnut ave. near Car Wash. Great memories.
I shared the marching drum corps pics with our New England drum corps group. A good rare pic was of the IC Queensmen from Winchester in White, Blue and yellow in front of the Exxon/Mr Donuts.
I didn’t want to be anonymous. I’m Ed Doherty, chestnut Ave. 01803. I started drumming in 68 with Citations and it was a big part of my life. Years later I played with a Boston Crusaders alumni group in the 90s. We got paid to do parades all around metro boston. The other youth drum corps and marching bands don’t do them. So we funded our senior corps with just doing parades, like Woburn, Medford, Stoughton. Revere etc. It’s too bad we don’t have parades like this as much anymore.
Those were the good old days🇺🇸
